TCIA would like to congratulate the most recent graduates of UpSkill California’s Utility Arborist Training!
The graduates participated in a five-week, 200-hour program developed by industry experts, in partnership with Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) and Butte College. UpSkill California, a group of more than 30 California community colleges, recognizes how climate change, droughts, and fire suppression have led to an increase in wildfires across California. Utility line clearance arborists clear vegetation around utility lines and graduates of this program leave prepared to work on a line clearance crew. In addition to providing training, the colleges support graduates with connections to ready-to-hire employers to secure jobs. Other industry stakeholders in partnership with UpSkill California include the Utility Arborists Association (UAA), International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), and the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA). This program addresses a critical labor shortage in the tree care industry while also responding to wildfire prevention in the state of California.
