TCIA’s workforce development team had the opportunity to speak to and share resources with the current cohort at PowerCorpsBOS. PowerCorpsBOS is a 6-month green jobs training program that provides young adults with training, career readiness support, and connections to employers in the green industry. Corps members also learn a variety of transferable soft skills. This is an “earn and learn” program, as the PowerCorpsBOS pays members to participate in hands-on training that prepares them for living-wage careers.

Participants need to meet the following criteria to be eligible to join:

  • Be 18-30 years old
  • Be a Boston resident
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED/HiSET)
  • Be unemployed or underemployed and not in college or on a career track
  • Have an interest in outdoor, hands-on training

Priority populations include returning citizens, court-involved residents, youth who have experienced homelessness or housing instability, young people who have been in foster care, and other marginalized communities.

The group was excited to learn about TCIA and all that we offer the industry. The participants in this cohort are about to graduate and are eager to find employment in the tree care industry. I am hopeful that TCIA and the workforce development resources we offer will be valuable tools that can support them as they begin this journey!
